Torsion Springs
|
Torsion springs offer resistance to externally applied loads through angular
deflection of the spring ends. The resulting torque applied to these springs sets-up bending
stresses, one of the key design criteria for developing a torsion spring design.

Although
typical torsion springs are close wound, special types include spaces between
the coils to reduce friction. Another special type of torsion spring is the double torsion,
which consists of one right-hand and one left-hand coiled section connected to work in parallel.
Although commonly made from round wire, PCS can produce torsion springs from the following
wire forms:
- Round wire
- Rectangular wire
- Square wire
- Special cross-section wire
Wire diameter range for torsion springs is from 0.005" to 0.626".
Leg configurations for torsion springs can range from basic straight legs to bent, hooked,
or formed to conform to your custom application.
